On Thursday at this year’s (2013) New York Comic Con, I had the immense pleasure of getting to know Esmerelda May! We became friends while waiting to enter the convention, but first met while participating in the New York Comic Con cosplay music video “Lose Yourself to Dance”, which can be seen here. The reason I chose to feature Esmerelda May on my site is because I find her participation in cosplay burlesque to be unique and exciting!  So, get to know Esmerelda May, below!

Name/Cosplay Name: Amber / Esmerelda May

Website/Cosplay Page: https://www.facebook.com/esmecosplay?fref=ts

How did you first get into cosplay?:

I had heard about conventions but had never been to one. Then one day I saw an Ichigo walking to the bank in my town, and when I looked into why I found the local convention by me. My best friend and I both decided we’d go next year and we cosplayed as Chii and Freya and the rest is history.

What do you love most about cosplay?:

Oh man, the whole thing pretty much, I mean I’m definitely guilty of having my “I want to hulk smash my sewing machine and just cry for days under the blanket” moment but I love making my cosplays, meeting new people, and just the fun weekends spent with my friends nerding out to the fullest.

How long have you been cosplaying?: Just over 5 years now.

Favorite cosplay memory?: This is a tough one. I’d have to say, and be kind of cheesy about it, AUSA 2011, it was my second show with CPB and we all went up to one of our rooms and just hung out, let loose and had a blast. It was the first time I really opened up to the troupe I’ve come to known as family and realized how much conventions have influenced my life and helped me meet some absolutely amazing friends!

Any other information you’d like to share?:

I am also a member of Cosplay Burlesque, we are a troupe that travels up and down the east coast to various conventions. It’s so much fun and it’s great to bring something for the 18+ people to enjoy at the con “after hours.” I’ve also made so many amazing friends because of the troupe, if you’re at a con and we are performing be sure to check us out! Www.cosplayburlesque.com and on Facebook.  I also just started a new geek podcast with my good friend, you can check out Lollipop Geek
